Dr. Smith brings 36 years of ophthalmologic experience to The Eye Center. A Richmond, Virginia native, he earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia and completed his residency in ophthalmology at Case Western Reserve University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio.
A pioneer in eye care, Dr. Smith was the founding member of Aiken Ophthalmology and co-founder of Carolina Surgery Center in Aiken, South Carolina. After decades of providing expert care to patients in the Southeast, he retired from Aiken Ophthalmology in August 2022.
Retirement hasn’t slowed him down—Dr. Smith has continued his twelve-year commitment to charitable eye care in Guatemala, while also enjoying golf and quality time with his wife, Lynn, their three sons, and four grandchildren.
Driven by a genuine passion for patient care, Dr. Smith is excited to return to clinical practice in the U.S. He will be serving in a fill-in capacity at The Eye Center, bringing his wealth of knowledge, warm approach, and dedication to every patient he sees.
