In Memoriam
Dr. Rick Milne is remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, a great friend, mentor to many, and the best eye surgeon most of us have ever known. First and foremost, however, he is known as someone who loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with all of his heart, soul, mind, and strength. Dr. Milne graduated with honors from the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston in 1980. He served his medical internship and residency at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, and was board certified in ophthalmology in 1986. He served as Chief of the EENT Clinic at Fort Jackson, Chief of Ophthalmology at Providence Hospital, and Medical Director of the Providence Hospital Surgery Center.
Rick was recruited by Dr. Fred Schwarz to join the The Eye Center, PA, and was a pioneer in the implementation of the newest techniques in cataract surgery, corneal surgery, and refractive surgery (CK, PRELEX, AST, Thin Flap LASIK, Epi-Lasik). His study of premium intraocular lenses implanted during cataract surgery in 2006 changed the practice pattern of the most respected eye surgeons worldwide.
As a humble disciple, he prayed with his patients prior to every surgery and discipled hundreds of people through his ministry at First Baptist Church of Columbia. Rick served on the Crossover Communications International board for 13 years, 11 of which were as chairman. The boardroom at Crossover is named in his honor. Through his significant generosity, skillful leadership, & embodiment of humble servanthood to glorify Jesus Christ, thousands around the world are able to hear the good news of salvation.
Rick hand selected Dr. Huff, Dr. Clary, & Dr. Platt to be his partners and to care for his patients in his absence. It is our honor to carry on the legacy of a love for our Savior, excellent medicine, humility, and compassion for our patients that Drs. Milne and Schwarz began.
