An intraocular lens (or IOL) is a tiny, artificial lens for the eye. It replaces the eye’s natural lens that is removed during cataract surgery. During cataract surgery, the natural, cloudy lens is removed and an IOL is implanted to restore clear vision.
The new lens bends (refracts) light rays that enter the eye, helping you to see. IOLs come in various types, each with specific features and benefits.
